Meet James McNally

James McNally, Community Specialist
James McNally, Community Specialist

Allow me to introduce myself. I’m James McNally, the brand new “Community Specialist” here at OpenSRS. What’s a community specialist, you ask? Well, I’m hoping to become another point of contact for many of our resellers. I can help you find out more about us and our services, and I’m eager to find out what’s most important to you. I plan to listen more than I talk, and to develop some initiatives that will help you to connect more easily with us and with each other. Our ultimate goal is to help you with your business, and I look forward to learning how we can contribute to your success.

From a personal perspective, I have always been fascinated by how communities form and grow online, from my first forays into BBSs back in the 1980s until I began blogging in 2000. I’m excited that companies are now taking the online space seriously and want to engage with their customers here.

One of the things that really drew me to a career at Tucows was its statement of core values, one of which is: “We  know that ‘we beats me’ any day.” I hope we’ll be able to work together to demonstrate that here and elsewhere.

P.S. One of our other core values states that we believe the Internet is the greatest agent for positive change the world has ever seen. Fittingly, we’re supporting this year’s celebration of One Web Day on Monday September 22nd. This “Earth Day for the Internet” both celebrates the power of the Internet and aims to focus attention on important issues affecting the online ecosystem. Watch this space for more as we approach the big day.

Good luck James, did you replace somebody or is it a newly created position ?

  2. James McNally Says:

Thanks for your good wishes, Struik. It’s a new position and I think it was a wise decision to create it. OpenSRS has been around since the early days when there was a real sense of community on the web. I hope to nurture that as best I can in our reseller community. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Congrats on the new position James.

I see your title is “community specialist.” Is this different from what is often referred to as “community manager?

  4. Leona Hobbs Says:

Hi Joe - Thanks for your question. We use specialist on the marketing team for individual contributors. In many ways James has a similar job description and role to what is called “community manager” in the industry.
